Entformung - a neologism coined by Dada artist Kurt Schwitters to describe the transformation of old materials into new art.

April 2020, in this time of sheltering at home, I re-designed an earlier unfinished work, in light of our COVID reality, based on a text I found in my studio about Schwitters & his collage concepts. Schwitters had turned inward as a retreat from the insanity of his world. I, too, looked inward but also to my past... to save myself from the present & our particular ‘poison’.

Texts on the vertical strips of the folding cover describe fears & nightmares; texts on the pages are from emails and journal notes, March 2020, when New York City was heading into its first surge. Each copy is a unique collage of my papers (and photos of them) chosen from my 30+ years of making books.
